Well, what can I say? Red Robins may be a tiny little company, but we have a very big heart. 🐦❤️

We don’t want to be the biggest. We want to make a difference to the people we visit, bringing kindness, friendship and happiness into their lives, as well as helping with the little jobs that can sometimes feel like too much.

We’re also there for families. We know how hard it can be when you’re juggling work, your own family and a busy life, or living too far away to pop in as often as you’d like. Knowing a friendly Robin is there to help can take a little pressure off and bring some peace of mind. ❤️

I’m so proud of what we’ve built together. Every one of our Robins shares the same family values, and that shows in the kindness, friendship and support they give to our clients and to each other.

A gentle reminder to wear your poppy as we remember those who served, those who gave their lives, and the families whose lives were changed forever.

At Red Robins Companions, we know how much the memories and stories passed down through generations matter. Taking time to listen is another way we can honour them.

I’ll be visiting a client that morning, and at 11am we’ll pause together for the two-minute silence. A quiet moment to reflect, remember and give thanks, side by side. ❤️

This quote really made me stop and think.

Over the years, I know there have been times when I’ve reacted badly to situations, and afterwards I’ve often been left feeling worse. As I’ve got older, I’ve realised how powerful it can be to pause, take a breath and, when possible, step away for a little while before responding.

When I thought about this, it also reminded me of families supporting a loved one living with dementia. ❤️

Seeing someone you love change can be incredibly hard. When they remember something differently, ask the same question again or believe something that doesn’t quite fit with what’s happening now, it’s natural to want to correct them or explain.

But sometimes, taking a breath and listening to how they’re feeling can make all the difference. If they’re worried, they may need reassurance more than an explanation. If they’re talking about a memory differently, perhaps you can ask them to tell you more, or gently move the conversation towards something comforting.

It can be hard to let go, especially when it’s someone you love. There will be good days and difficult days, and none of us gets it right all the time. Please be kind to yourself too. ❤️

Every person living with dementia is different, and what helps one person may not help another. If you’re worried about a change in your loved one, it’s always worth speaking to their GP.

The Alzheimer’s Society has helpful advice on understanding and supporting someone living with dementia, including tips for communication and coping with changes:

When Nick’s family first contacted us, they were trying to work out how to help their mum stay in the home she loves.

Among all the lovely words in his review, one part really stayed with me: his mum feels she has a group of friends to look forward to seeing.

That means so much. Getting to know someone takes time — learning what makes them laugh, what they used to enjoy and what might make their day a little brighter.

Alongside the laundry, washing up and encouragement, those friendships grow. A familiar face at the door becomes a visit to look forward to, and families have the reassurance that someone is taking the time to notice the little things.

❤️ Meet our lovely Robin, Andrea! 🐦

Where do I start with Andrea? She’s been with Red Robins right from the very beginning and was actually the very first Robin I employed! ❤️

I’ve known Andrea for many years, going right back to our school-run days at Fleetville School in St Albans! We also worked together at another local companionship company before I started Red Robins, so we go back a long way!

How would I describe Andrea? Kind, caring, funny, organised, thorough and someone who gets things done! She’s a real team player and is always happy to share advice and support her fellow Robins. ❤️

Andrea also makes me laugh because she’s like a walking medical encyclopaedia! It’s a bit like having a doctor by your side! 😂 And when Andrea phones, you’d better make yourself a cup of tea because you know you’ll be chatting for at least 45 minutes! ☕🤣

Our clients absolutely adore her. She loves a good chat, really gets to know the people she visits and always makes sure everything is sorted and they’re happy and comfortable.

Outside Red Robins, Andrea loves spending time with her family, gardening, arts and crafts, going to the gym and socialising with friends. She’s always keeping herself busy!

Andrea has been such an important part of Red Robins from those very early days, and I’m so grateful for her loyalty, kindness and everything she brings to our little family.
